Abstract

A hinge member for spectacles comprises a strip of metal bent for form a loop (14) of substantially greater area than a bore (27) to be provided inside the loop. The metal strip is substantially wider than a hinge prong. The space enclosed by the loop is filled with plastics material (26) and the bore (27) is machined in the plastics material. The bent-over end (18) of the strip is brought parallel with the straight portion (19) next to the loop and secured to this straight portion. A gap is machined in the loop to form the two prongs of one half of a hinge, between which a prong on the other half of the hinge will be located.
