Abstract

The portal frame carries main scraper chains (3) pivotal about their lower ends at which there is a discharge conveyor (21). The main chains are lowered as the pile of material is reduced and are fed with material by smaller auxiliary scraper chains (4) mounted on pivotal arms (10) on the other side of the portal frame. The auxiliary scraper chains are pivotally lowered about their lower pivots at the same time as the arms (10) are pivotally lowered, this ensuring that the auxiliary scraper chains follow the natural slope of the pile of material and that the ends (5, 15) of the scraper chains are adjacent when the pile of material has been completely cleared. The frame runs on side rollers (18, 19).
