Abstract

The accelerator linkage is fitted with a rack section guided through a special solenoid control. In this a spring loaded plunger is operated by a manually switched solenoid to hold the linkage in the selected position. The solenoid is counteracted by a second solenoid operated by the brake light switch, i.e. when the driver touches the brakes. Alternatively the linkage can be arranged to be freed if the accelerator pedal is pressed. A new type of fail-safe switch can be incorporated in which a mercury switch is clipped to the driver's spectacles, to operate the throttle release if the driver starts to doze off.
