Abstract
Proteins which are obtd. by the fermentation of alcohol, pref. (m)ethyl alcohol, and which have to be dried, are processed by using the alcohol which forms the carbon source in the fermentation, to remove part of the water from the densified biomass out of the prodn. vessel by washing and/or exchange in a centrifuge, or by filtration; and feeding back the alcohol contng. water and condensate, obtd. by vaporising under vacuum, into the fermentation vessel. The max. amt. of energy is recovered from the drying flues. Washing with alcohol or methanol coagulates the biomass.
