Abstract

The periscope observation head comprises both a purely optical device for day time observations and an opto-electronic device for night time viewing. The observation head is connected by a link tube (8) of long length to an observation position which is equipped with an eye-piece. The head contains both the optical device and the opto-electronic device each with a large aperture objective (3, 5) and a switching device (7) for linking the common optical system, which relays the image along the periscope tube as far as the eye-piece, to either the optical path (1) or the opto-electronic path (1'). The opto-electronic device may be an image intensifier (6), an IR converter or a low light level TV camera.
