Abstract

The precast block consists of a main ring-shaped section (1) containing an oval cavity (2) extending along its length. At each end of the main section are two semi-ring-shaped sections containing an open-ended cavity. Several sections placed side by side and one on top of the other form tubular cavities which can be filled with concrete forming a pillar. Reinforcement bars can be inserted into the cavities. Each section is made in a special mould, the central part of which consists of a metal plate with hinges at each side linking it to curved plates forming an oval shape. A system of expansion and contraction using a cylinder and piston means that as the concrete sets, the central section contracts and can be easily withdrawn.
