Abstract

On track (5) is a carriage (2) lifting a platform (3) and fitted with double acting jacks (4) operating with single rods. The load to be transferred is placed on the platform (3) and the carriage and load rolls on a "departure" track until at the centre of the first track crossing. Bogies (6) are placed under the ends of the platform and the jacks lowered until the platform rests on the bogies. The jacks are then operated so that the carriage (2) is raised from track (5), allowing the platform to be moved along track (7) using the bogies. A reverse operation is used for unloading.
