Abstract

New method of extraction of plant anthocyanosides by extracting with methanol containing 0.5 to 2% v/v of strong acid, e.g. HCl, in the cold and then precipitating the anthocyanosides from the soln. with an organic solvent in which they are insoluble; in which the powdered plant material is previously washed with a solvent to extract inactive or interfering substances, the solvent being acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, methyl isobutyl ketone or dioxan contg. a strong acid, filtering, collecting the treated solid and evaporating from it the residual acetone at about 50 degrees C, then precipitating the anthocyanosides from the methanolic soln. with acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, methyl isobutyl ketone or dioxan, collecting the dehydrated solid washing it with diethyl ether/methanol, then with ether and finally evaporating the solvent. The anthocyanosides, used in cosmetics, in the food industry and as drugs, are prepd. in a dry condition with little degradation, and are capable of being stored without the use of preservatives.
