Abstract

A shaft (1) connects two inwardly facing abutments (4, 7) spaced at a distance equal to the combined thickness of the materials to be joined. One abutment forms the head (3) of the element and is solid. The other is provided with a number of transverse slots and also has an ogival end shape of larger diameter than the shaft. This combination allows the plug to be inserted easily in the fixing hole and when fully inserted, the slotted end expands, firmly maintaining the fixing. The shaft may be other than circular in section, to prevent rotation of the plug and the head may carry various objects, such as electrical fixtures. If the ace (7) is made to an obtuse angle relative to the shaft, then the plug withdrawal force may be controlled.
