Abstract

To attach objects to thin partitions (4) forming part of a cavity wall (5, 6) a dowel (2) of flexible plastic is used. The dowel has a moulded on metal nut (3) with a screw thread to suit the fixing bolt (1). The dowell has four equally spaced longitudinal slots which allow the material (11) between the slots to bow outwards when the bolt engages the nut. The material thus forms a collar which retains the dowel in the hole in the partition (4). This form of plug is particularly useful if the partition or wall is made of brittle material. An alternative form of dowel has a stud instead of the nut and bolt and a nut screwed onto the stud in place of the bolt head.
