A seal for a slot in a wall sepg. two zones of different pressure, allowing the continuous passage through it of a length of matl., comprises a supporting rib surrounding the slot and fixed to the wall; an endless cover which presses on the support rib, maintaining sliding contact with it, and covers the slot completely; means of progressing the length of matl. between the cover and the rib and through the slot, and means of moving the endless cover across the slot, in contact with the support rib or with the matl, passing through the slot; the cover and/or the surface of the support rib being sufficiently flexible to adapt to the matl. passing between. The arrangement allows the paper and the textile fabric to pass through the slot whilst keeping air entry very low.
