Abstract
Supported optical brightener-contg. layer is produced by dissolving a water-insoluble optical brightener in at least one liq. alpha,beta-unsatd. monomer; polymerising the monomer prepn. in water and in the presence of an anionic dispersant to form a latex; and applying a layer consisting of or contg. this latex, pref. mixed with colloid, on a substrate. The method is used in the prodn. of optically brightened photographic materials. The optical brightener is built into layers and less optical brightener is needed compared with application from a solvent.
