Abstract

A hydraulically operated drum brake has shoes (14, 16) each with a friction face bonded on. The two shoes are held together at the bottom by means of a spring (18). An anchor block (24) rivetted to the wheel at (26) locates the shoes at the bottom. The brake shoes are held together at the top between a tension spring (34) and a cylinder (32) housing a suitably sealed spring loaded piston. The hydraulic inlet and outlets to the cylinder fit through the wheel plate. The holes in the wheel plate are oval so that the cylinder can float horizontally.
