Abstract

The main patent describes a mechanism for vehicles with a toothed rack moved by a pinion connected to a steering shaft, under a servo control, which requires either the rack or the pinion to have substantial end stops to limit movement in the steering housing. Instead the limiting of movement is achieved by hydraulic switching and the movement to the end stops is monitored. The hydraulic control consists of a valve connected via the pinion and a lever to the rack. A second layout has an extension to the track operating lever that operates beyond the pinion.
