Abstract

1495448 Power - assisted steering gear ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 26 Feb 1975 [18 March 1974] 7935/75 Addition to 1469185 Heading B7H A servo - assisted rack - and - pinion steering gear comprises a control valve 8 controlling actuation of a servomotor (not shown), acting on a rack 7, in dependence on the position of a lever 9 moved in response to reaction forces set up between the pinion 6 and the rack 7, the lever 9 being pivoted by a pin 20 to an arm 17 which, in turn, is pivoted by a pin 19 to a bracket 18 secured in the housing 23 of the gear. A spring 27 acts to urge the pinion 6 into engagement with the rack 7. The pinion 6 is provided on a steering shaft end portion 3 journalled in a sleeve-like member 24 to which the lever 9 is secured. In the illustrated embodiment, movement of the pinion 6 in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the rack 7 is limited by engagement of the outer surfaces of the sleeve-like member 24 with stop surfaces 28 of the housing 23. In a modification of the illustrated embodiment, such movement may be limited by engagement with bolts 29, 30.
