Abstract

The register (11) which pref. has five stages, each of which can adopt the logic state 'O' or 'I' has its output (32) connected via an inverter (30) and a selector switch (S1) to the data input (22). The selector switch (S1) allows the data input (22) to be supplied from the feedback loop or from an external terminal (13). A second selector switch (S2) allows the clock pulse input (23) for the register (11) to be connected to a count input terminal (14) such that the register acts as a Johnson counter, or to a further terminal (16) to which erase pulses are supplied. With the register (11) connected as a Johnson counter the count indication is sequentially transmitted to the register output terminal (19).
