Abstract
The DC input to this convertor is applied to a transformer by a push-pull pair of power transistors. The output is rectified, filtered and connected to a regulation stage. This compares the output to a reference and regulates a blocking-oscillator whose output is also rectified and filtered. This resultant level is compared to a sawtooth and the differential ramp-voltage is used to produce a variable-width pulse. A push-pull amplifier is driven by that variable-width pulse and, in turn, controls the power transistors. The use of transformers completely isolates the input and output and overcomes the variability problems of previous designs using photo-coupled diodes for regulation.
