Abstract

The guide track (1) for this linear motor system is made from non-magnetic material and has permanent-magnet poles at a suitable pitch along its entire length. The electromagnets (3) which form the inductor poles are located in the mobile part of the motor. Their DC supply is from rectified mains or batteries and is pulsed by suitably phased pulses whose frequency determines the speed of the motor. Braking energy can be recovered for battery recharging or heating. This system optimises the use of the magnetic fields and reduces the edge field losses.
