Abstract
The converter has a mains rectifier stage (3) connected to a ringing-choke transformer (7) via a series transistor (5). The transformer output is rectified (9) and connected through a pi filter (13-14-15) to the output. A pulse from the transformer (19) operates a Schmitt trigger circuit n21) which triggers a monostable multivibrator (23) whose output pulse width is determined by the difference between the convertor output level and a reference level (25). This variable-width pulse then determines the chopping rate of the series transistor. The convertor gives good regulation with fast response to load variations which makes it suitable for use with computer fast memories.
