Abstract

An expansion joint (10) is fitted between two ends (12) (14) of adjacent rails (16) (18). These rails have three contact faces at 120 deg. At the end of one rail (12) is bolted (23) a tubular guide (25) in which is a tightly fitting rod (26) engaging a similar piece attached to the other rail. This forms a telescopic sliding assembly. A key (32) fits fairly closely in a groove (36) on the rod (26) and prevents rotative motion. A force applying piece (44) which is hexagonal fits in the tubular guide (25) to stop unwanted deflection. The arrangement gives continuity of mechanical contact of the collector, whilst isolating the rails.
