Abstract

The worm (11) is constructed in the normal manner, having a central core (13) and helical screw flights (14). The wheel (12) comprises a disc (16) of equal thickness to that of a standard wheel. A central core (17) fixes it onto a shaft. Around the periphery (18) and central in the thickness are a number of radial holes (19), at equal intervals. Pegs (21) fit tightly and securely in these holes, their free ends (22) having a ball race or a taper roller bearing (27) to agree with the running surface (29) of the worm. These assemblies (23) constitute the gear teeth.
