Abstract

Cushions, esp for automobile seating, of soft foamed synthetic e.g. polyurethane material, with a textile e.g. nylon cover, are provided by (a) holding a piece of textile material in a frame in the vicinity of its periphery, (b) preforming the piece by moving the material towards the inner space of the frame without any considerable expansion during simultaneous fold-free contraction of the matl. in the peripheral direction in the region of the frame, (c) fixing the threads of the piece in the region of the frame against each other, (d) applying the preformed textile piece against the inner wall of the mould by vacuum deep drawing, and (e) filling the cavity of the deep drawn piece with a foamable synthetic resin. Ensures that the textile piece is completely and firmly pressed against the inner wall of the mould. Short moulding cycles are required. Gives cushions with smooth. fold-free covers.
