Abstract
Two lamps (1), (1a), are fitted behind of transparent protective strip (3) fixed on a rear reflector (4). This reflector is pivoted and can turn through a certain angle (X). The angle is calculated to give main and dipped beam conditions. One or more photoelectric cells are placed inside the trough. These detect the intensity of oncoming lights (from 150 to 1,000 metres distance) and set in action, for example, an electric motor joined to cranks on the trough axis. The trough can be mounted on ball bearings. Side fitted lamps may be similarly actuated, and have beams directed downwards and behind, on the offside, to illuminate the road in front of an oncoming car.
