Abstract

The unit has two cylindrical bodies with locking balls between them allowing free relative axial movement in one direction but not in the other. The bodies form between them a chamber for connection to a source of fluid under pressure. The locking ball mechanism incorporates a driving cam (20) rotating with one of the cylindrical components (14A) and connected to the other (14B) by rotary coupling devices. A first cylindrical hearing faces moves axially between two stops on the first component, and a second tapered face is coupled to the second component, forming with the cam a housing for one or more balls, which are forced by springs against the faces.
