Abstract

Torque indicating socket spanner, for tightening nuts and bolts etc., is more economic than prior art, simply utilizing elastic deformation of the spanner to indicate maximum torque or tightening couple. In a pref. form the spanner is an elongated cylindrical rod (1) with axially aligned nut engaging socket (2) and drive socket (3) at opposed ends, this rod manifesting a torsional yield when the desired tightening couple is attained. Actual length (1) and dia. (d) are dependent on the elastic properties of its constituent material which is pref. steel or chrom-vanadium and various geometrical or notched forms can be used.
