Abstract

The device consists of two steel washers (20, 21) and a soft aluminium washer (22). The latter is slightly thicker than the lower steel washer into which it fits. The upper steel washer is a close fit on the bolt (14) and has the same outside dia. as the lower steel washer. When the bolt is tightened, the soft aluminium washer is plastically deformed until the upper steel washer abuts against the lower steel washer when there is a sharp increase in spanner torque which indicates that the correct torque has been achieved.
