Abstract

The Y-zeolite catalyst is hydrothermally stable and ammonia stable. The ammonium-sodium-Y-zeolite contg. 0.6-5 wt. % Na, pref. 1-4 wt. % (cald. as Na2O) is calcined at 316-899 pref. 427-899 degrees C in 0.014 pref. 0.14-1.05 kg/cm2 steam for a period sufficient to reduce the elemental cell of the zeolite to 24.40-24.64 pref. 24.42-24.62 angstroms. This is followed by an ion exchange treatment in which >=25 pref. 70% of the remaining Na ions are replaced by ammonium ions. The prod. which contains 1 pref. 0.6 wt. % Na2O, is mixed with a water-contg. oxide of small particle size, for example Al-, Si-, Mg-, Be-, Cr oxide Ti-, Zr-, or Th dioxide, or clay and the mixt, is formed into granules or pelletes and these are again calcined at 316-816 degrees C for a period sufficient to remova ammonia without affecting the cell size to is not 24.40 angstrom. The catalyst is useful for hydrocracking, converting n-paraffins to isoparaffins, isomerising alkyl aromatics, transalkylisation of alkyl aromatics, alkylisation.
