Abstract

A device for moving one component of an appts relative to another component, for example closing the door of an autoclave, consists of parallel screws threaded into tapped holes in one of the components, for example a frame, and passing through holes in the other component, for example a flange on the autoclave, the door being between the frame and the flange. Each screw has a chain wheel keyed onto it. All the chain wheels are in the same plane and are driven by a single chain so that rotation of the chain moves the screws equally. The chain is driven by a motor on a support which pivots about an axis parallel to the screws against the action of a spring. Rotation of the chain causes the screws to rotate, moving the frame so as to move the door against or away from its opening. A limit switch operated by the motor support can stop the motor. The device brings about uniform, reversible and very precise movement of one component relative to another.
