Abstract

1,196,104. Electric switches &c. MOFFATS Ltd. 6 Feb., 1969 [7 Feb., 1968], No. 6027/68. Heading H1N. A tuning mechanism, particularly for controlling electric switches, comprises a carriage 35, slidably mounted on a shaft 25, and movable along the latter against the bias of a spring 30 by a threaded shaft 23, engaged in a notch 37 in a flange 33 on the carriage 35 and coupled at one end to an electric driving motor 16, and its other end passing through a slot 24 in a wall 12 of a base 10 supporting the mechanism, the shafts 23, 25 being parallel when the carriage 35 is driven, and the shaft 23 being disengageable by movement of said other end thereof in the slot 24 against the action of a spring 40. The illustrated apparatus is for the control of the electric heating of an oven to clean it by pyrolysis. The closing of a switch (not shown) to initiate the electric heating starts the motor 16 to drive the carriage 35, and when a tab 45 on the latter engages the actuating element 44 to open a switch 43 the electric heating is terminated and the motor 16 is stopped. The threaded rod 23 may then be lifted out of the notch 37 by rotating a bell-crank 51 to allow the carriage 35 to be reset to its starting position by the spring 30. During the electric heating operation the motor 16 also drives via gearing a shaft 20 carrying a cam 58 controlling a changeover switch 56 whereby two heating elements of differing outputs are energized alternately.
