Abstract

A rotor (8) is formed by upper (7) and lower (10) frusto-conical sections the lower edge of the latter returning vertically (11) to incorporate peripheral vanes (14). The rotor is housed in a co-axial cylindrical vessel (1), with an overhead motor (4) whose drive shaft (5) passes through the roof (2) to engage the rotor (8), the base (15) of the vessel returning outwards to house the vanes and form an annular effluent outlet (18). Abrasive liners (20, 21) on rotor and vessel walls together with radial rotor vanes (9) effect pulverisation of the effluent. The discharge outlet extends tangentially to the rotor (14) and there is a tangential inlet (3).
