Abstract

In order to protect the transistor horizontal deflection output stage against voltage and current surges occurring during spark-over or breakdown of capacitors in the voltage multiplier, a diode and a decoupling resistor are connected in parallel behind the transistor horizontal deflection output stage, so that when positive breakdown pulses arrive from the voltage multiplier, the diode is blocked and the pulses reach the h.v. transformer only through the decoupling resistor. The diode in parallel with the decoupling capacitor is inserted between the voltage multiplier and the h.v. transformer secondary winding, or between the voltage multiplier and the horizontal deflection output voltage, (switching transformer).
