Abstract

A butterfly valve (3) has a lever (5) engaging a fixed stop (11) or a moving stop (10), with a jack operating the latter. The working chamber (14) of the jack is connected through an electromagnetic valve to the air inlet pipe (1) downstream from the butterfly valve and between the chamber and the valve there are two restrictions (36, 40). A control switch (29) for the valve operates in response to the butterfly valve position so that the fall in pressure in the working chamber (14) and the positioning of the moving stop (10) occur beyond the opening position of the butterfly valve. The restrictions limit flow to the chamber (14) so that the stop (10) moves slowly to produce a slow closure of the valve (3) and a reduction in pollution emission.
