Abstract

A refuse incinerator has a hopper (10) feeding a screw (12) which pushes the refuse through a cylindrical refractory tube (16) which has a gas supply tube (17) passing through it, and also thorugh the screw, the outer tube being slowly rotated by a drive unit (13), and the gas being ignited at the outlet end (21). Under the outer tube is a main burner chamber (9) with ports (15) at the top where primary combustion air is mixed with the flame, to heat up the charge of refuse inside the outer tube. The reduction motor drive unit (13) rotates the tube (16) on rollers (14) which have central openings passing cooling air.
