Abstract

A moistening pad for stamps, envelopes etc. or for moistening the fingers for counting documents etc. consists of a cup shaped container (1) holding water (4) with a cover (2) which forms a good seal, and carrying an absorbent layer (14) in the form of a strip of material bent into an inverted U shape, with the ends of the U (8) passing through two slits (6) in the cover, so that they are immersed in the water sufficiently to moisten the top part by capillary action. The strip can be cut and bent so as to form a top portion which is wider than the U portion, and also so that there is a gap (16) between the horizontal top portion and the cover, for insertion of the gummed edge of one envelope.
