Abstract

The component consists of a first wooden plank, one edge of which is cut out so as to form alternate protruding and recess portions, and a second plank similarly cut out. The protruding surfaces on the first plank are then fixed to those on the second plank. A metal strip can be fixed to the other edge of each plank. Alternatively, the component can be built up from trapezium-section blocks of wood, bearing against each other and secured by their narrow ends so as to give approximately flat upper and lower edges. The height of the protruding surfaces on each plank can be roughly uniform. The component may have planks attached over the metal strips to form I beams.
