Abstract
Metal removal rate is increased by raising the energy level and increasing the time delay between impulses, using mains supply frequency. The workpiece (2) is submerged in an aqueous electrolyte (3) which is slightly conductive and which is pumped (5) through a gap (6, 7) between the workpiece and electrode (1). Conduction across the gap (7) is through a mains transformer (8), a thyristor (9) and a rectifier bridge (10) which rectifies a small part of the transformer secondary current. The electrode is negative polarity. Rectified impulses are passed through a diode (11) to the thyristor trigger via a circuit (13) which limits its period of excitation.
