Abstract
Vapourisation of metal from a workpiece during the primary stages of spark discharge across the gap is avoided by striking the spark discharge across electrode, by applying a voltage and a current, increasing the intensity of the current applied to the gap, fusing a volume of metal compatible with a predetermined surface finish and rate of erosion and stopping conduction of current after a predetermined period of time. Partic. the increase in current intensity is stopped when a max intensity is reached and the max level maintained for a predetermined period of time. The current is increased incrementally.
