Abstract

1500492 Discharging static electricity UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF NORTH WALES 10 March 1975 [9 March 1974] 10651/74 Heading H1X [Also in Division H2] A device for discharging static electricity comprises a piezo-electric crystal assembly 3 which can be longitudinally squeezed then released in a controlled manner by means of a trigger 9 to generate a high voltage on electrode 10, which voltage is applied to a sharply pointed electrode 12 to generate a flow of ions whose polarity will alternate slowly as the assembly 13 is squeezed and released. The electrode 12 is within a dielectric housing to inhibit spark discharges and an overvoltage protection spark gap 15 can be provided.
