Abstract

Pilot arc is maintained between the nozzle and the electrode of a plasma burner and voltage pulses are applied to the nozzle, which are positive relative to the workpiece, in order to destroy the oxide coating on the welding surface, alternating with voltage pulses applied to the electrode, which are negative relative to the workpiece, so that the main arc strikes between them to fuse the metal.
