Abstract

1445133 Electrolytic machining CAREL FOUCHE LANGUEPIN 16 Aug 1973 38818/73 Heading C7B [Also in Division B3] An impression is formed in a workpiece 12 by an electrode 10 which is separated from the workpiece 12 by a weak electrolyte and which is fed with separate, negative pulses having a frequency of 20-200Hz and a voltage peak value of not greater than 60V. The electrolyte e.g. soap water, emulsified mineral oil, is supplied through a rectangular slot 11 in the copper electrode 10 from a supply tank 16 by means of a pump 13. The pulses are supplied by an A.C. supply via a variable transformer 19 and a half wave rectifier 18. During the intervals of time (b) Fig 4, (not shown) between the application of the pulses to the machining gap by the diode 18, the voltage in the gap decreases exponentially. The transformer 19 may be bridged by a variable capacitor (26) Fig. 3, (not shown). The electrode 10 is connected to a vibrator 8 which is operated at a frequency at least as high as that of the supply pulses e.g. 100Hz when the pulse frequency is 50Hz. The width of the machining gap is controlled by a servo-control 23 operative at a voltage of 4-20 volts.
