Abstract

A transfer material comprises a transparent or translucent sheet with a peeling coating on one face; the symbols or letters are attached to this coating and are themselves coated with pressure-sensitive adhesive. To effect the transfer, the back of the sheet is rubbed with a pencil etc., thus causing the peeling layer to break around the edge of each symbol or letter and to release it from the transfer sheet. The letters become transferred to the receiving sheet, taking the underside of the peeling layer with them. The letters are pref. of an adhesive printer's ink contg. dye or pigment; the peeling layer may also contain dye or pigment. The letters have a tensile strength pref. at least equal to that of the peeling layers. Pref. materials for the transfer sheet are polystyrene, polystyrene-butadiene, or polyethylene terephthalate. The brittleness of the rupture of the peeling layers leads to instant transfer of the symbols.
