Abstract

A traction device for correction of sideways curvature of the spine, or scoliosis, employs a vertical metal rod (5) of known type which is secured to vertebrae near the top and bottom of the spine, and to one side. For additional correction to certain vertebrae where distortion is the greatest, a further threaded rod (11) carrying hooked pieces (14, 15) top and bottom, is clamped across the opposite tips of two vertebrae (4) by means of nuts (16) at the bottom, and to which is attached a further threaded cross member (12) which carries hooked blocks (18, 19) each end, one block (18) hooks onto the vertical rod (11) and the other (19) hooks onto the original vertical rod (5), and tensions the two vertical rods together by means of further nuts (20).
