Abstract

The tube (1) is provided with a plug of diameter (18) only slightly less than the bore when subjected to the test pressure. The front end of the plug has a short tapered length (16) and the rear end a longer tapered surface (19) which is provided with a groove (20) for a sealing ring (25). The plug (17) is forced into the tube end and then the ring (22) is forced on to the outside of the tube so that the inner wall is forced against the sharp edge (21). When the tube (1) undergoes a pressure test the bore enlarges with the end sections curving gradually inwards, so keeping bending stresses to a minimum.
