Abstract

Aq. emulsion of water repellants for hydraulic binders comprises 5-5 pts. of a paraffin which softens between 40 and 60 degrees C, 1-20 pts. of a lignite wax acid having an acid index 115-155, a saponification index of 130-175 and a m.pt. of 70-90 degrees C, neutralised with alkali reacting substances and 95-50 pts. water. The emulsion is useful for binders used in concretes, mortars, fired bricks, resin or gas concretes, asbestos fibre cement etc. esp. for sites immersed in sea water etc. The additive forms water repellant salts with Ca and Mg, giving resistance to extraction, the stability of which is not affected by several years exposure to climatic conditions. Efflorescence is avoided.
