Abstract
Welding current supply with a transformer to convert an applied high a.c. voltage into a low a.c. current of up to 400 amps, has also a full-wave bridge rectifier circuit to convert the low voltage a.c. current into an output d.c. current. The bridge rectifier circuit has at least two thyristors to control the current feed to the bridge circuit and simultaneously to rectify the low voltage a.c. current. A drive arrangement acts on a control signal to control each of the thyristor stages during each a.c. cycle and cuts off the thyristor stages after the fading of the control signal. Each thyristor stage has an anode, a cathode and a control electrode and the drive arrangement has a further thyristor for each thyristor stage.
