Abstract

A hydraulic pump has an elongated body (1) with a pressur chamber (15, 15') each end, with parts (12, 12') which are traversed by a piston (3, 3') each end, and scavenging gas passes through the hollow centres (16, 16') of the pistons to leave through ports (11, 11') at the end remote from the pressure chambers. The reciprocating action of the pistons is assisted by opposed pressure balancing springs enclosed in a housing parallel with the main pump housing. Two such pumps may be used in line to operate a rotary device on e.g. a vehicle, and interconnected by a pair of racks and a common pinion attached to a rotating spindle.
