Abstract
Very rapid closure is achieved by the use of an accelerating member which may consist of an auxiliary diaphragm coaxial and in contact with the valve proper, but having a larger active area, or of a rod connecting entry and discharge valves of similar type. A simple compressed air system is shown with the first type of the discharge side. The valve diaphragm (18) is connected via a moulded ring (20) to the accelerator diaphragm (19), of larger diameter, the whole being spring loaded to the closed position. Use of the accelerating member prevents fluid loss during repetitive action as in anti-skid braking systems when entry (1) and discharge (3) ports might otherwise be connected for significant periods.
