Abstract
Battery comprising a nickel hydroxide positive electrode, a negative electrode and an alkaline electrolyte has one or more quaternary ammonium cpds. added to the electrolyte. Preferred ammonium derivs. are alkyl, aryl or alkylaryl ammonium cpds., esp. tetramethyl-, tetraethyl- and tetrabutyl-ammonium hydroxides, and they are pref. dissolved in aq. KOH, NaOH or their mixts. The release of oxygen occurring from the nickel hydroxide at temperatures >40 degrees C experienced in prior art is impeded giving rise to increased working life.
