Abstract

An explosive warning device buried in the ground, like a mine, has an outer casing (1) with its top nearly flush with the ground level, carrying a cap (10) at the top with an igniter (11) projecting from it, attached to a trip wire (12). When the device is actuated by the trip wire, a screen (9) around a warning charge (7) is ignited and the pressure forces off the top cap (10), also the main charge (2) below is exploded. This ejects the warning charge which may consist of an audible warning. At the same time, the main charge (2) is raised by a spring (5) underneath it until a collar (4) around its cylindrical case (3) abuts a ridge (6) around the top of the housing, while it continues to burn or emit smoke as a further warning.
