Abstract

A fluid pump (10) with two stages driven by a motor (11) the first stage (12) being e.g. a constant displacement gear or piston pump which delivers an excess flow to the second stage (13) which may be a similar constant displacement pump. To keep the supply of liquid through the second pump proportional to the drive speed, the flow is regulated by a membrane (14) across the tube (15) forming the discharge from the first stage and the supply point for the second stage, so that if the pressure at the outlet of the second stage rises, the membrane is pushed towards the outlet of the intermediate tube (15) to reduce the flow discharged by it and pressure is reduced.
